Make It Monday - Mosquito Repellent

Life in Florida is wonderful, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.  There are a few drawbacks, of course:  the heat, alligators, and most of all, the mosquitoes.  Yes, those pesky bugs are a big problem here in paradise.

Over-the-counter bug repellents are full of dangerous chemicals, and I don't like to use them.  I have found a do-it-yourself solution that works really well, and also smells wonderful.  As a matter of fact, I use it daily instead of cologne or perfume.  Here's the recipe:

DoTERRA Lavender essential oil (5 drops)
DoTERRA Lemon essential oil (5 drops)
Filtered water to fill a 2-ounce glass bottle with a pump

I also use a small atomizer that I keep in my purse (pictured above).

I've used this repellent on my grandson since he was about two years old.  He doesn't mind being sprayed with it at all because it smells so good.

You can experiment by adding a few drops of other oils to find a scent that appeals to you.  I like to add a couple of drops of these oils sometimes:

DoTERRA Hawaiian Sandlewood (my favorite)

DoTERRA Cedarwood

You can purchase DoTerra essential oils at my website.  Just click on this LINK.

  1. Thanks for the recipe. Finding a small glass spray bottle is my challenge. Small plastic bottles are readily available, but glass are harder to find. Where did you snag that spray atomizer?

  2. This is an old as the hills bottle that I cleaned to re-use. I've bought bigger glass ones on Amazon. You might also try aromatools.com
