Sabbath Music - Two Coats

Did y'all have a great day of giving thanks for your many blessings? I sure did, and you know we don't have to stop.  We can keep right on going and do it every day forever, right?  That's my plan, and it's what I choose to do daily.

I'm looking forward to the Sabbath service tonight.  Last week, I had a bout of the dizzy head (vertigo) and didn't get to attend.  I especially miss the time of thanksgiving we have each week at the beginning of the service when everyone gives a short testimony of praise.

As I was thinking about the music to share this week, the song Two Coats by Patty Loveless kept coming to my mind.  My music taste is eclectic, as I've said before, and this bluegrass song is a favorite and the one I want played at my going home celebration (funeral).  It's my testimony:

Shabbat shalom to y'all, Gail-Friends.

Thankful Thursday - Thanksgiving Day Blessings

Today is Thanksgiving Day.  I'm thankful to spend the day with my family.  I'll be missing my mama, though.  This will be the first Thanksgiving I haven't spent with her in sixty-five years.

Every year, when I have to cook the meal, I am thankful for all of the years Mama cooked it for us.  It's work, Gail-Friends, and she loved cooking.  Of course I brought side dishes, but she always did the heavy stuff -- the turkey and dressing and giblet gravy, the pies and other special things.  I'm thankful for all those many years she labored in the kitchen, showing us her love.

Even when she was in the nursing home, I either brought her to my house or ate a meal with her.  It will seem strange, like so many things are strange since she passed away.  I still think about her a lot, and when I go shopping  I catch myself thinking about what she might need.

I'm thankful for my husband who's been washing dishes for me while I cook.  What a blessing!  I'll cook a while and then put my feet up to rest while he cleans up the dirty pots and pans.  I love that man!

I'm thankful that my daughter, son-in-love, and grandson will be with us tomorrow, and that she's cooking for the meal, too.  She's like a little Martha Stewart in so many ways.

I'm thankful that my older daughter will be with her husband's family tomorrow.  Family is important on holidays, and I pray they have a blessed day together.

I'm thankful for the abundance of food and drink that will be on our table.  All things come from His hand.

Here's our menu for tomorrow:

 turkey with Mama's dressing and giblet gravy, cranberry sauce (regular and sugar-free), yellow squash, creamed corn, broccoli casserole, mini croissants, pecan pie and a sugar-free cheesecake, libations, and lots of thanks giving, I hope.

I hope you have a good day, Gail-Friends.  I'd love to know what's on your menu, and what you're grateful for?

Blessings to y'all.

Wisdom Wednesdays - Thankfulness Every Day

"Always give thanks for everything to G-d the Father in the name of our L-rd Yeshua the Messiah" Ephesians 5:20

This painting hung on the wall of my dining room for many years.  I loved it because it is a reminder to be thankful. As my husband and I prepare for a big  Thanksgiving Day celebration with family tomorrow, I've been thinking about thankfulness.

I'm sure, if you've been reading the Bible for a long time, you know how often G-d commands us to be thankful.  But, do you know what The Bible says about  being ungrateful?

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.  (2 Timothy 3:1-7)

Have you ever thought of a lack of gratitude as a sin?  I don't want to be among the ones who are listed with the above.  Do you?

Have you ever thought about where a lack of gratitude can take you?    This passage expounds further:

What is revealed is G-d’s anger from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people who in their wickedness keep suppressing the truth; 19 because what is known about G-d is plain to them, since G-d has made it plain to them. 20 For ever since the creation of the universe his invisible qualities — both his eternal power and his divine nature — have been clearly seen, because they can be understood from what he has made. Therefore, they have no excuse; 21 because, although they know who G-d is, they do not glorify him as G-d or thank him. On the contrary, they have become futile in their thinking; and their undiscerning hearts have become darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they have become fools! 23 In fact, they have exchanged the glory of the immortal G-d for mere images, like a mortal human being, or like birds, animals or reptiles!
24 This is why G-d has given them up to the vileness of their hearts’ lusts, to the shameful misuse of each other’s bodies. 25 They have exchanged the truth of G-d for falsehood, by worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator — praised be he for ever. Amen. 26 This is why G-d has given them up to degrading passions; so that their women exchange natural sexual relations for unnatural; 27 and likewise the men, giving up natural relations with the opposite sex, burn with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with other men and receiving in their own persons the penalty appropriate to their perversion. 28 In other words, since they have not considered G-d worth knowing, G-d has given them up to worthless ways of thinking; so that they do improper things. 29 They are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and vice; stuffed with jealousy, murder, quarrelling, dishonesty and ill-will; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of G-d; they are insolent, arrogant and boastful; they plan evil schemes; they disobey their parents; 31 they are brainless, faithless, heartless and ruthless. 32 They know well enough G-d’s righteous decree that people who do such things deserve to die; yet not only do they keep doing them, but they applaud others who do the same. (from Romans 1 CJB)

Not a feel good passage is it?  We don't like to read passages like this, because they remind us of G-d's righteousness and holiness.  But they are important because they explain why the world is becoming more evil.  Ignoring G-d, not praising Him and thanking Him can lead to more sin and ultimately to death, eternally.

Thankfulness is a daily, sometimes moment by moment, discipline.  We have to choose gratitude continually, because there is much in the news to cause us to fear, complain, and keep our eyes on the circumstances around us.

I've formed some habits around thankfulness, too.  First thing in the morning, I say, "Praise the L-rd!" My first words in my morning journal are praises to my Father, and before I go to bed,  I record in my journal three things I'm thankful for.  It's a great way to start and end my day.

Let's choose gratitude, Gail-Friends, not just on Thanksgiving Day, but every day.  I love this quote:

Those are golden rain tree blossoms in the background.  I love how they look like little hearts.  They are just one of the many little things I'm grateful for.  They make me happy, happy, happy and give me JOY!

I hope you all have a day overflowing with thanksgiving tomorrow.  When I count my blessings, you Gail-Friends are among them.

Sabbath Music - Thanksgiving

Come, let’s sing to Adonai! Let’s shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation! Let’s come into his presence with thanksgiving; let’s shout for joy to him with songs of praise. (Psalm 95:1-2 CJB)

Here's a song I love to sing to Him. I hope you enjoy the music, art, and photographs.

Thankful Thursday - Morning and More

Do you love morning?  I do.  I love to sit and watch the morning come.  It's a special time of day.  The Scriptures mention it many times.  My heart fills with gratitude and joy as I watch the sun rise, and see and hear the birds begin to visit my yard.  Just think, Gail-Friends, our Creator feeds every living thing daily, including the birds and you and me.  Let's not forget to thank Him for that.

My daughter and I attended a painting get together this month, and it was great fun.  Everybody painted something different. They supplied the canvas, brushes and paints for us. This is my painting:

This is my daughter's painting. Isn't she talented?

Here we are together, and I'm always so grateful to spend time with her.  She pointed out that we both painted a tree, a bird, and included Scripture. Kindred spirits, right?

I decided I didn't like how my bird looked, so I changed my painting.  I haven't added the Scripture yet.

We held a shower for one of our sweet synagogue ladies last night, and had so much fun.  I'm thankful for girlfriends and spending time with them, aren't you?  Women need time together sometimes, right?

And here's a neat treat one of the ladies brought.  It is white grapes, dipped in caramel sauce and then dipped in chopped nuts.  Simple and healthy, right?

I'm so thankful to see the first beautiful male painted bunting of the season.  Sorry for the bad photo.  I only had my camera phone at that point.  I'm praying we have as many as last year.

We picked up our grandson last week for play-day, and asked what he'd like to do.  He was very thoughtful for a bit, and then said, "Well...you know the new Peanuts movie is playing now." So, we went to see it and had the best time.

It's such a sweet movie and has great music.  In one scene, they are at a school dance, and the music is peppy and joyful.  He jumped up from his seat and started dancing, so we did, too.  JOY!  Grandchildren are so much fun.

Here's something else that gave me joy this week.  These are the words of author, Lucy Maud Montgomery OBE (1874–1942), from Anne of Windy Poplars, 1936.

"Anne, sitting at her tower window one late November evening, with her pen at her lip and dreams in her eyes, looked out on a twilight world and suddenly thought she would like a walk to the old graveyard. She had never visited it yet, preferring the birch and maple grove or the harbour road for her evening rambles. But there is always a November space after the leaves have fallen when she felt it was almost indecent to intrude on the woods…for their glory terrestrial had departed and their glory celestial of spirit and purity and whiteness had not yet come upon them."

Those words beg to be savored, and I've read them over and over again.  The image they paint in my mind begs to be painted.  I love the Anne of Green Gables books, and never get tired of re-reading them.  With my Kindle, I can take the whole set with me when I travel. JOY!

Here's the view from my window, with the tiny bit of Fall we get here in central Florida. Look closely at the top of the photo and you can see a few colorful leaves. The crotons in the foreground stay that color all year long.  Don't hate me, but the temperature is almost ninety here today.  I'm thankful, because I love warm weather all year long.

What are you thankful for today, Gail-Friends?

Thankful Thursday is my day to focus on and be grateful for all the good things in my life.

Wisdom Wednesday - His Wisdom

Our synagogue's Torah scroll, which is over 350 years old

We live in a day and time of great delusion. The Word of G-d has been cast to the wind or stomped under foot.  Even people who claim to be seeking wisdom don't seem to be able to find it.

In my reading of Proverbs, which I do as a daily discipline, I read this in Proverb 8:

Wisdom is calling!
Understanding is raising her voice!
On the heights along the road,
where the paths meet, she is standing;
by the gates leading into the city,
at the entrances, she cries aloud

So, wisdom is not hard to find.  In fact, it's shouting at us.

Let's read on:

 “People, I am calling you,
raising my voice to all mankind.
You who don’t direct your lives,
understand caution;
as for you, you fools,
get some common sense!

Wisdom is calling to everyone, not just those seeking, but to those who aren't.

These words are important:
Listen! I will say worthwhile things;
when I speak, my words are right.
My mouth says what is true,
because my lips detest evil.

Wisdom is speaking, and that voice is the voice of ADONAI.  Did you see that last word, "evil" ?  We live in a day where preachers and churches are telling us to do evil things.  In example, at a recent social gathering I heard a man who claims to be a minster say that we can't accept what the Bible says because it's not relevant for today.  I didn't argue with him, but I removed myself from him immediately.  This same minister's denomination advocates abortion and same-sex marriage, homosexual ministers, and much more evil.

 All the words from my mouth are righteous;
nothing false or crooked is in them.

Again, this is ADONAI speaking.  He says ALL of the words from His mouth are righteous.  On that point, a standard for righteousness has been lost in this society.  But, look what the Word says here:

 They are all clear to those who understand
and straightforward to those who gain knowledge.

If we are honestly seeking His wisdom, we run into His holiness - His righteousness.  Now, here's the rub: G-d is a holy G-d, and He calls us to be like Him.  We have to make a decision.  Will we accept His holiness and righteous ways?  It is at this point that many turn away and seek something different.  Many are always seeking, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

If we accept Him and obey Him, we have a rich reward:

Receive my instruction, rather than silver;
knowledge, rather than the finest gold.
11 For wisdom is better than pearls;
nothing you want can compare with her.

This has been my experience.  My search for His wisdom has blessed me beyond what I thought was possible.  I am a rich woman.  Just look at my wealth:

“I, wisdom, live together with caution;
I attain knowledge and discretion.

Those things are needed today, with all of the evil surrounding us.  We are bombarded on the streets (signs, bumper stickers, people's t-shirts, the actions of others), and even in our homes through the media (tv, radio, internet, books, magazines).  But there is a way out:

The fear of Adonai is hatred of evil.
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil ways and duplicitous speech.

We have to turn away from these things and not allow them to stay in our view, mentally or physically.

Here is more wealth that comes when we choose ADONAI'S righteousness:

14 Good advice is mine, and common sense;
I am insight, power is mine.
15 By me kings reign,
and princes make just laws.
16 By me princes govern,
nobles too, and all the earth’s rulers.

By receiving and obeying His Word and His ways, we receive the ability to think correctly and make right decisions.  We are never confused or indecisive.  We know right from wrong immediately and act on it quickly. Yes, and there is more:

Riches and honor are with me,
lasting wealth and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, fine gold,
my produce better than the finest silver.
20 I follow the course of righteousness
along the paths of justice,
21 to endow with wealth those who love me
and fill their treasuries.

We're not talking about the feel-good, send me your money and get rich gospel preached by the television preachers here.  We're talking about obeying the righteous rulings of the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  You won't hear them teach on those things, except to tell you they are not for you today.

Are you confused by the teachings of all the different teachers, churches, religions and denominations?  Are you seeking His wisdom?  Take heart!

I love those who love me;
and those who seek me will find me.

Yes, you will find His wisdom IF....you love Him and accept who He is.  On that point, do you know Him?  Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah) is the same yesterday, today and forever, and He is ADONAI in the flesh.  He didn't change between the Old and New Testament.  That takes time to chew on if you've been in the church for a long time.  I pray you will read the gospels with that in mind.  Yeshua never contradicted ADONAI.  He obeyed the Torah and went to the synagogue faithfully.  He didn't start a new religion.  He did what the following verses of Proverb 8 say:

I follow the course of righteousness
along the paths of justice,
21 to endow with wealth those who love me
and fill their treasuries.
22 Adonai made me as the beginning of his way,
the first of his ancient works.

Wisdom is G-d's mind.  It is revealed in the Torah (the first five books of the Old Testament).  Wisdom does not contradict itself.  Wisdom is ADONAI.  Wisdom is Yeshua.  Again, I encourage you to study the Torah and then to read the gospels to see why Yeshua said and did the things revealed there.  He never said to disobey the Torah.  He did, however, become angry with those who added to it by making their own rules.  He didn't change, Gail-Friends.  He is the same wisdom revealed in the Torah.

Let's look at more benefits of wisdom from Proverb 8:

Therefore, children, listen to me:
happy are those who keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction, and grow wise;
do not refuse it.
34 How happy the person who listens to me,
who watches daily at my gates
and waits outside my doors.
35 For he who finds me finds life
and obtains the favor of Adonai.
36 But he who misses me harms himself;
all who hate me love death.”

That's strong, isn't it?  It should make us tremble and fall on our knees in repentance, because obeying others, instead of His wisdom, leads to death.

I became very disillusioned with the "church" when I looked around me one day and realized that the one I attended was really a country club.  It was a place of entertainment. I left it, but I didn't leave G-d.  I clung to Him fiercely, and sincerely sought His wisdom and ways.  I pray you will, too.

How blessed are those who reject the advice of the wicked, don’t stand on the way of sinners or sit where scoffers sit! Their delight is in Adonai’s Torah; on his Torah they meditate day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2 CJB

Sabbath Music - Let The Righteous Be Glad

Another week ends, Gail-Friends, and I pray yours was good.  I had a busy one, but a very good one.  It was a blessing to honor the Veterans, and to see the vibrant patriotism in our community.

Here is some music for your Shabbat.  I pray you will honor Him above all, and be refreshed and renewed.

I love this song by Zemer Levav - Let the Righteous Be Glad and Rejoice Before Him.  Let's do this!!!

Thankful Thursday - Veterans Day & More

Hubby and I had a wonderful day yesterday, celebrating Veterans Day.  First, we went to the Veterans Day parade in downtown Melbourne, which is a lovely place to visit. A little girl handed him this card, and he told her, "You've made my day!"  I told the parents how much I admire them for teaching their children to honor the military.  Patriotism is not dead, Gail-Friends, and I'm thankful for that.

Here are some photos from our time at the parade:

It was great to see people in the crowd decked out in patriotic clothing.  We always dress up.  Here's a closeup of the pin I wore, which I made years ago.

After the parade, we went to Applebees for lunch.   All veterans received their meals FREE, which is another blessing I'm thankful for.  Our motto is, "If it's free, it's for me."   Doesn't he look happy?  And he's still just as cute as the first time I met him at the skating rink when I was sixteen.

That afternoon, we attended the Massing of the Colors at Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa.  Even though the temperature was in the nineties, we still enjoyed a wonderful ceremony honoring the veterans.  We attend every year, and I think the best part is that G-d is also honored by the speakers and by the prayers offered.  The last song we sang was the Battle Hymn of the Republic, which always touches my heart.  Hearing the words, "Glory, Glory, Halelujah!  His Truth is marching on!" gives me chills. It reminded me that, in spite of the darkness we see in our country and the world, His will is supreme.  He's got this.

While in Melbourne, we visited Old Time Pottery.  I'm so thankful for a husband who doesn't mind my meanderings through "women's" stores.  He patiently pushed the cart and encouraged me to take my time.  I fell in love with this sign.  Isn't it the truth? I'm so thankful for my family. If you've never been to Old Time Pottery, be sure to stop in.  It's wonderful.

We also visited the Dollar Tree, where we found a selfie stick for $1.00.  Since our selfies always turn out super scary,  I thought this would help.  I got to thinking...if you take a pic of yourself, it's a selfie. So.... If it's two people, is it an "ussie"? If it's three or more, is it a "groupie"?  We'll need more practice with the stick, as you can see.

Our doxie got a new shirt, too.  It says, "Who rescued whom?"

I heard a great quote today, which I'm pondering:

You don't believe what you SAY, you believe what you LIVE.

And this verse from Ephesians 5:20 touched me this morning:

 "always give thanks for everything to G-d the Father
 in the name of our L-rd Yeshua the Messiah."

 What are you thankful for today, Gail-Friends?

Thankful Thursday is my day to focus on and be thankful for all of the good things in my life.
