A Song For Such A Time As This

Time to unplug.  Time to rest.  We need it, don't we?  This has been a stressful week.  A stressful year.  Thanks be to God, He gives us this day to recharge and refresh -- especially with worship, praise, and focus on His Word.

I've been waking up every night lately several times with this song running through my mind.  I hope you'll listen and read the lyrics.  It is a message for such a time as this.  Enjoy -- and have a blessed Shabbat Shalom.

Shehekiyanu by Ted Pearce

Let's stay strong, and continue to pray that God will have mercy on America.  Pray for our President, and that the election fraud will be uncovered and brought to justice.

Sabbath Music - Oh, Love That Will Not Let Me Go

**

This song has been playing in my head ever since I read the words during my meditation time earlier this week:

Oh, Love That Will Not Let Me Go
by George Matheson

Oh Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

Oh light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

Oh Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.

Oh Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

The story behind this song is so heart-rending.  You can read that story at this LINK.

I listened to half a dozen renditions (and tunes) of the song before I found this one,  "O Love" performed with original music by Elaine Hagenberg

The lyrics of the song give me chills every time I hear or read them, and this version makes me feel like the angels are giving Adonai all the praise my heart cannot express.   I have to praise Him when I think back over my life and how He has protected, guided, loved, and blessed me.  I'm so thankful for that love and, like the song says, "His love will not let me go."  Haleluyah!  I will give Him glory forever!

This song is part of a playlist that is wonderful for His Sabbath.  I hope you enjoy it  -- Good Shabbos to you, Gail-Friends!

Sabbath Music - David Danced

***

November 1 and I can feel Fall in the air.  It's supposed to get down in the upper sixties tonight, so I might get to wear that new pink sweater I bought recently.

Last week, I talked about worship, and continuing that theme, today I'll talk about dancing in worship.  Have you ever done it?  Like I said before, I was raised in a Southern Baptist church and they frowned on such things.  But when I was introduced to Messianic Judaism, I was thrilled to see people dancing during worship.

At our synagogue, we dance and use flags and tambourines every week.  I love it.  It's called Davidic worship and it's called that because David (of the Bible) danced in the streets in worship to Adonai.  You can read all about it in 2 Samuel 6.  It's very interesting and this song is based on that Scripture:  David Danced by Joshua Aaron.   I hope you enjoy it and I hope you dance! You don't have to be a trained dancer.  You don't have to know any steps or routines.  Just turn on the music and move in rhythm with the music.  Raise your hands, dance, and worship our Heavenly Father.  I know you will be blessed and filled with JOY when you do!

Have a wonder-full, worship-full, and rest-full Shabbat and a good week ahead.

Sabbath Music - For Your Name Is Holy

**

As I write this post, night is falling.  Time to turn away from the world and spend time with our families and honor Adonai's holy day - Shabbat.  This song is so anointed . . . so worship-full that you may want to listen to it lying down.  For Your Name is Holy by Paul Wilbur
You may want to lay on your face in worship.  That is how it affects me.  I'd like to recommend that you listen to it without the video first.  Then, listen and watch the video.  It will give you a lot to think about. ADONAI is holy.  That is a part of who He is.   I also challenge you to go to Bible Gateway.com and search for the word "holy".  It is a very interesting study.

I say that because I don't think His holiness is thought of much any more.  The Bible says, "His ways are not our ways."  I was talking with someone this week about how much churches have changed since I was a child.  There was a fear and a reverence of the Lord that has gone by the wayside.  Holiness was not even talked about when I went to church as a mature adult.  I've reconnected with that part of Him, and  I pray for that aspect to return to our lives and to houses of worship.

About twenty years ago, before I found Messianic Judaism, I was in a service at an Assembly of God church.  It was a Wednesday night and we were in the middle of praise and worship.  I felt such a strong impression of God's holiness that I wanted to lay with my face down on the floor of the church.  I kept my eyes shut and kept thinking,  I feel so weak -- like I'm going to fall down.  Is there room to lie down?  What will people think of me if I do that?  The urge was so strong . . . I can't explain it.  Please understand, I was raised as a Baptist . . . a Southern Baptist, and they just don't do anything remotely like that.  As a matter of fact, they don't even believe in raising one's hands in praise and worship.

So, that night, I struggled with this strange and overwhelming urge to lay face down on the floor.  I opened my eyes and lo and behold!!!  Everybody in the church was laying face down on the floor.  God touched me that night.  I didn't lay on the floor, but I did sit down and put my head on the pew in front of me.  I had to, because the presence of God was so strong. Over the years, I've felt that urge many times and I've learned to accept it and obey that urge.

I believe that feeling is what we will feel in Heaven during the New Kingdom.  The Word says that we will cry, "Holy, Holy, Holy" over and over again as we worship Him in the full recognition of His awesome, overwhelming holiness.  Like the video shows, we will be bowing down on the floor.  I feel chill-bumps (aka holy-bumps) just thinking of it, don't you?

After the song ends, let the playlist play on . . . and worship Him.  Lay on the floor and enjoy His presence as you worship.

Sabbath Music - Enter His Gates

Greetings from the Golden sukkah!  We're enjoying our celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles / Sukkot.  The weather has been so nice and cool in the mornings and late in the evening.  Just perfect for sukkah time!

Here's a song we play and it's a good one for this feast.  I love the lyrics:

Enter His gates with joy in your heart
and His courts with songs of praise!

YES!  I hope you listen and enjoy Enter His Gates by Steve McConnell.

Sabbath Music - Ani Ma'amin / I Believe

**

I hope your Yom Kippur observance was a blessing.   As always, I am thanking Yeshua for his blood that atones for our sins. Each year, this set apart day reminds us that He is holy - and that we are to be holy, too. I'm so thankful for His mercy.

I'm also thinking about Yeshua's return.  That's what today's song is about:  Ani Ma'amin (I Believe) is a statement of faith in His second coming.  I'd previously used this song in a different version which was very upbeat and makes my feet want to dance.  This version by Michael ben David is slow and contemplative.  I like both versions of the song. The beginning of the song is in Hebrew, but he also sings it in English.

I BELIEVE, WITH COMPLETE FAITH,
IN THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH / THE COMING OF YESHUA
AND THOUGH HE MAY DELAY,
NEVERTHELESS, I WILL WAIT EVERYDAY UNTIL HE COMES.

Are you preparing for Sukkot? Are you getting your sukkah ready?  The holiday begins on Sunday at sun-down.  I'm looking forward to some sukkah time.  If you're not familiar with the feasts and festivals of Adonai, click on the subject list on the right of this blog.  The subjects Sukkot, Feast of Tabernacles, and Feasts and Festivals have some good stuff for you learn from and to use for your celebration.

Have a good Shabbos, dear Gail-Friends, and a blessed holiday week ahead.

Sabbath Music - Hine Bati

This is one of my dear husband's (who is also my personal rabbi) favorite songs.  I love it, too, and I love the video which shows scenes from Israel.    The songs lyrics are taken from Psalm 40:8-9

 "HERE I COME, O MY LORD, FROM THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK THAT'S WRITTEN OF ME. TO DO YOUR WILL, MY GOD, IS MY DELIGHT AND YOUR TORAH IS DEEP WITHIN ME."

 Hine Bati (translated Here I Come) is today's song for your Sabbath meditation and worship.  The YouTube video says this about Michael ben David:

"Shot in the Qumran and at the Dead Sea, this latest Music Video invites the Viewer to experience Micha'el's Discovery Journey of TORAH TRUTH that has set Him FREE to worship the Holy One of Israel in Spirit & in Truth as He encountered HaKadosh Baruch Hu/The Holy One Blessed Be He, in Israel over a decade ago in a deeper Way than Micha'el had even known before and since then he has entered the Narrow & Difficult Road to God's Calling on his life, his Destiny and Purpose in the Kingdom of YHVH! "Broad is the way that leads to destruction" therefore Micha'el upon being called to break away from the norm and the cold routine of the religious worlds infiltrated with falsehood and doctrines of Satan, did not hesitate to walk purposefully and face to Face with the One Who is altogether Lovely and HOLY; and it has NOT been easy at all. Micha'el encountered much opposition from fellow believers and non-believers alike along the Way! Despite all the challenges and difficulties and misunderstandings coming from every direction, Micha'el remains STRONG and determined for the Good Hand of YHVH is upon Him to be as "a Repairer of the Breach and a Restorer of the Ways to dwell in" to build the Wall just as Nehemiah and Ezra of old and to stand in the Gap as Ezekiel for the Generation of Jacob who will praise HIM in Spirit & in Truth~the Full Counsel of YHVH!

Born and Destined to be a Voice in the Wilderness as He prepares the WAY of the Coming of the LORD with His Songs of Zion, Micha'el has set his face like flint! He will NOT turn to the left or the the right of His Calling! His Aim is first and foremost to please His Heavenly Father and NOT to please men! Let He who has Ears to hear take heed and understand and consider the wonders and mysteries of YHVH and turn and be saved! Oh the JOY of doing the Will of our Creator and of embracing His Full Counsel, the Commandments of YHVH and Faith in YESHUA HAMASHIACH.... Micha'el unashamedly proclaims God's Righteousness and is a Voice to our Generation! For this is the Generation of Jacob who will praise YHVH!

From Tehilim/Psalm 40:8-9 (Hebrew) "Then I said: 'Behold I come; in the Scroll of the Book written of Me. Elohai I delight to do your will and Your TORAH is deep within Me!"

This Video was shot at Qumran and at the Dead Sea where Bible Scrolls were found! Reenacting the fact that God's Voice is still to be heard and discovered in the Midbar/Desert Wilderness of Life! It is there that we can receive His Torah, His Instructions for LIFE! And say YES to His Will! May you too delight in doing His Will!"

A point to ponder on this Sabbath day -- Do I delight to do His will?

Sabbath Music - Adonai Uri

 Oh, what a long week we've had.  Last Sunday and Monday, we were making final preparations for Hurricane Dorian, which was headed for the Space Coast.  Praise Adonai forever -- we were spared as the storm stayed well off the coast.  No damage, no loss of power and very little wind and rain.  Hashem heard our prayers and protected us.  Haleluyah!

I've heard people saying it was over-hyped or it was a nothing-burger.  But, just imagine what would have happened if Dorian had retained its strength and stayed on the same course.  We would be like the poor people of the Bahamas.  So, I am very grateful today as I prepare for the Sabbath.

I love this beautiful song, so appropriate for this past week, which is based on Psalm 27.  I hope you will meditate on that passage and enjoy the video on your Sabbath this week.  Adonai Uri by Michael ben David.

Shabbat Shalom, Y'all and be blessed and grateful.  And pray for the people in the Bahamas.

Sabbath Music - Till the Storm Passes By

We are preparing for Shabbat and for a hurricane.  Please pray with us that Dorian will head out into the open waters eastward and away from land.  As I've been preparing, I keep hearing this song in my head.  I remember going through a big storm years ago, sitting in my rocking chair with my precious baby girl, Melissa, in my arms.  The storm was crashing all around, but my heart was at peace as I sang this song:  Till the Storm Passes By.
And when the song finishes, just let the playlist go.  You'll hear some wonderful songs to encourage you and lead you to worship our wonderful Heavenly Father.

Let me know if I can pray for you, Gail-Friends, and have a safe and blessed Shabbat.

Sabbath Music - Burn In Me

What is your passion?  Something to think about on this Sabbath day.

Do you look forward to that set-apart time with your Heavenly Father?

If not, take that time to be with Him.

He's waiting for you.

He said, "Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you."

Such a lovely invitation.

I'm looking forward to time alone with my first and greatest love.

This song is so, so good.  It starts off slow, but you'll be dancing soon.   Burn In Me by Paul Wilbur.

Sabbath Music - Micha Mocha (Who Is Like You?)

Greetings and welcome, Gail-Friends.  So much has been happening here at Golden Cottage, and I hope to catch you up next week.  But, today is preparation day and I've been meditating on the parshah for the week ahead:  Deuteronomy 3:23 --7:11. The song for today is based on Deuteronomy 3:24:

24 ‘Adonai Elohim, you have begun to reveal your greatness to your servant, and your strong hand — for what other god is there in heaven or on earth that can do the works and mighty deeds that you do?

I hope you enjoy this beautiful song by Paul Wilbur -- Micha Mocha.  The title is Hebrew for Who Is Like You? We sing this song every week in our Shabbat service.

This parshah also includes the Sh'ma:

“Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These words, which I am commanding you today, are to be on your heart. You are to teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up. Bind them as a sign on your hand, they are to be as frontlets between your eyes, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Chapter six includes the Ten Commandments.  The fourth commandment commands us regarding His Sabbath:

12 “‘Observe the day of Shabbat, to set it apart as holy, as Adonai your God ordered you to do. 13 You have six days to labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Shabbat for Adonai your God. On it you are not to do any kind of work — not you, your son or your daughter, not your male or female slave, not your ox, your donkey or any of your other livestock, and not the foreigner staying with you inside the gates to your property — so that your male and female servants can rest just as you do. 15 You are to remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Adonai your God brought you out from there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore Adonai your God has ordered you to keep the day of Shabbat.

A good meditation for this Shabbat is to journal about these three passages. This is how I do it:
  •  List the wonders of Adonai's creation that cause me to be filled with wonder.  (For me, that would include all of the plants and flowers and birds He's made for us.)
  •  Do I love Adonai with all of my heart, soul, and strength?  How does that play out in my life?  Yeshua the Messiah said that we show Him our love by obedience -- keeping His commandments.
  • Am I teaching His commandments to my children (grandchildren and adult children) diligently?
  • Am I studying His Word and meditating on it throughout the day? (For me, writing Scripture verses on post-it-notes is a good way to do this.)
  • Am I keeping the commandments listed in the Ten Commandments?"
  • Am I honoring "His" Sabbath?  How am I doing that?

I hope you have a wonder-full, worship-full Sabbath and a blessed week ahead.

Sabbath Music - Your Name

Shabbat Shalom, Gail-Friends!

I'm looking forward to the Sabbath because I've had a busy, stressful week.  Some happy stress and some not- so- happy stress. But it's all good because Abba works it all together for good, right?  In the not-so-happy things, I call on His Name.  When I'm puzzled, when I'm tired, when I'm afraid, when I'm angry . . . I call on His Name to take my hand and walk me through it.  He always does.   His Name is powerful and that's what today's song is about:

Your Name by Zemer Levav

Sabbath Music - He's Been Faithful to Me

Today's song for your Sabbath is He's Been Faithful to Me, sung by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.   Listen to the words carefully.  This song always makes me cry. as I remember all the times God has been faithful to me.  I have many of them recorded in my prayer journal.  I write them down because when troubles come along, it's easy to forget all the things He's done.

This is a good thing to do on Shabbat - make a list of all the things God has done for you.  A good start is:

He covered me in my mother's womb
He gave me LIFE!!
I can see
I can walk
I can talk
I can hear
I have strength
Food on the table
A roof over my head

You get the idea, right?

It's a good practice to list at least three things you're thankful every day.  Those things are part of His faithfulness to us.  Everything comes by His loving hand.

Have a blessed and peace-full Sabbath.

Sabbath Music - Beside Still Waters

I have a beautiful playlist for you today.  I love listening to this music - no words - but familiar hymns.  It's  so rest-full and peace-full.  Speaking of peace, I wrote a post about it for this week's Thankful Thursday.

Beside Still Waters

Shabbat Shalom to you, dear Gail-Friends.  Have a good week.

Sabbath Music - Psalm 34

I'm always amazed at how Adonai brings songs to my attention each week.  This song, titled Psalm 34, is based on the following Psalm and is sung by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.  What a great meditation for Shabbat.  I will read each verse and do what it says.  Then, I will write in my journal, remembering and recording the things He has done for me over the years.  Oh, how I can boast about Adonai.

For example, in verse five, "I sought Adonai and he answered me; he rescued me from everything I feared."  I could (and maybe should) write a book about how fearful I used to be.  It was a debilitating fear. Maybe it was a panic attack?  But I have not experienced anything like that in decades.  Why? Because I learned to push back the fear and meditate on the Scripture, "When I'm afraid, I will trust in Him."

I hope you'll try this exercise and let me know what you remember and record as you meditate on this beautiful Psalm.

Shabbat Shalom, Gail-Friends, and may your Sabbath rest be sweet.

Psalm 34
  (1) I will bless Adonai at all times;
his praise will always be in my mouth.
(2) When I boast, it will be about Adonai;
the humble will hear of it and be glad.
(3) Proclaim with me the greatness of Adonai;
let us exalt his name together.
(4) I sought Adonai, and he answered me;
he rescued me from everything I feared.
(5) They looked to him and grew radiant;
their faces will never blush for shame.
(6) This poor man cried; Adonai heard
and saved him from all his troubles.
(7) The angel of Adonai, who encamps
around those who fear him, delivers them.
(8) Taste, and see that Adonai is good.
How blessed are those who take refuge in him!
10 (9) Fear Adonai, you holy ones of his,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
11 (10) Young lions can be needy, they can go hungry,
but those who seek Adonai lack nothing good.
12 (11) Come, children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of Adonai.
13 (12) Which of you takes pleasure in living?
Who wants a long life to see good things?
14 (13) [If you do,] keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from deceiving talk;
15 (14) turn from evil, and do good;
seek peace, go after it!
16 (15) The eyes of Adonai watch over the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
17 (16) But the face of Adonai opposes those who do evil,
to cut off all memory of them from the earth.
18 (17) [The righteous] cried out, and Adonai heard,
and he saved them from all their troubles.
19 (18) Adonai is near those with broken hearts;
he saves those whose spirit is crushed.
20 (19) The righteous person suffers many evils,
but Adonai rescues him out of them all.
21 (20) He protects all his bones;
not one of them gets broken.
22 (21) Evil will kill the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
23 (22) But Adonai redeems his servants;
no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

Sabbath Music - Battle Hymn of the Republic

While I'm preparing for Shabbat, I'm thinking that yesterday's Independence Day was one of the best I've ever spent.  We enjoyed a local small-town parade, followed by watching parades in Washington D.C. and other towns and then President Trump's speech before the Lincoln Memorial.  I felt overwhelming pride in my country and thanked God for the rise in patriotism I've seen since he took office.

Our local parade was about an hour long and a great deal of the marchers were members of our law enforcement officers.  We love the men in blue, especially our sheriff.  You can see pics from the parade on yesterday's post.  Our area is big on patriotism and we always enjoy the parades on Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

The D.C. parade included representatives from several ethnic communities such as -- Vietnamese, Formosan, Caribbean, Chinese, Hispanics, Tibetan, and East Indian Sihks.  Many of the floats were playing the song I'm Proud to be an American on their loudspeakers.  This impressed me because these people came here legally and made the effort to join our country as bonified citizens.  They kept their culture but did not try to change our laws or our American culture.  I say this because it struck me that there were no Muslim floats represented.  In America, we have the freedom to keep our cultures and religions.  Yet, it's only been the Muslims who have worked to add their laws to our land.  I'm completely against that.  We were founded on Judeo-Christian principles according to the Bible.  If this group wants an Islamic country, they should go somewhere else.

The speech made me so very proud of America.  He included so much history and hi-lighted American military heroes from the past.  The speech was inspiring and encouraged patriotism and unity.  God bless this man, and God bless America.

The event included fly-overs of military helicopters and airplanes while the military hymns were accompanied by a band and choir.  Our president believes a safe country includes a strong military, and I agree.  There were even tanks on the mall.  I loved it.

I had chills when the choir sang The Battle Hymn of the Republic.  It was good to hear the words "God" and "Christ."  I'm thankful that this was done because His Name was lifted up and it carries power.  The words "Glory Haleluyah" was sung over and over again.  The word "Haleluyah" is a Hebrew word that means "Praise God".  I'm overjoyed that our president chose that song.

Today, I'm sharing the song, performed by the U.S. Army Field Band, and I hope you will enjoy it, too.
The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I pray your Sabbath is sweet.  Let's meditate on the blessings of living in this wonderful country and give Him praise that we are blessed to be here.  God's truly shed his grace on the USA.

Sabbath Music - Revelation Song

Shabbat shalom, Gail-Friends.  It's almost that beautiful day, so I'm preparing.  Here's a worship-full song for your Sabbath.  Revelation Song   Every time I hear this song, it brings tears to my eyes, and I want to lay on my face in worship.

I love this line:

"With all creation,
I sing praise to the King of Kings -
You are my everything
 and I will adore You."

I have to raise my hands in worship. . . and adore Him.

My prayer is for you to join me in worship and that your Sabbath is blessed with peace and JOY!

Sabbath Music - Prepare the Way

Seems like I catch myself lately saying, "We were born for such a time as this."  It's a message Hashem has laid heavy on my heart.

I read this Scripture today, and it answers the question about why our society, and the world, are becoming more and more depraved:

Romans 1:   they have become futile in their thinking; and their undiscerning hearts have become darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they have become fools! 23 In fact, they have exchanged the glory of the immortal God for mere images, like a mortal human being, or like birds, animals or reptiles!
24 This is why God has given them up to the vileness of their hearts’ lusts, to the shameful misuse of each other’s bodies. 25 They have exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, by worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator — praised be he for ever. Amen. 26 This is why God has given them up to degrading passions; so that their women exchange natural sexual relations for unnatural; 27 and likewise the men, giving up natural relations with the opposite sex, burn with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with other men and receiving in their own persons the penalty appropriate to their perversion. 28 In other words, since they have not considered God worth knowing, God has given them up to worthless ways of thinking; so that they do improper things. 29 They are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and vice; stuffed with jealousy, murder, quarrelling, dishonesty and ill-will; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God; they are insolent, arrogant and boastful; they plan evil schemes; they disobey their parents; 31 they are brainless, faithless, heartless and ruthless. 32 They know well enough God’s righteous decree that people who do such things deserve to die; yet not only do they keep doing them, but they applaud others who do the same."

We live in an evil day, my friends.  Sin abounds and our voices are to cry out in this wilderness.  The gospel of Yeshua and obedience to Torah is preparing the way for His appearing.  We are to share the truth of His Torah and the saving power of Yeshua's blood.  This is the gospel - the truth that sets captives free.

These are the words of Yeshua our Messiah in Matthew 28:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make people from all nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age.”

Yes, he is with us in this day, encouraging us to preach His truth and prepare the way for His return.  This song has that message - Prepare the Way by Paul Wilbur
