31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 31

The Garden of Gethsemane, on the Mount of Olives, is my favorite garden in Israel.  Gethsemane is not known for its flowers because it's an olive grove.  The photo above shows bougainvillea that grows on the edge of the outside of the garden.

In Matthew 26, we read that Yeshua and his talmidim (disciples) observed Passover in Jerusalem, and then went to this olive grove to pray.  Here, we read that He was in such anguish in prayer that His sweat became drops of blood.  Here is where He said, "Not my will, but Thine be done."  It was here that He was arrested and taken to prison.

I'd read this story many times in my life, and it was humbling to stand in the place where He prayed for me.  I was humbled even more, when my eighty-year-old traveling companion, Carmita, knelt and thanked Him for His sacrifice.  She's gone to be with her Savior now, and I look forward to seeing her one day.  She taught me so much about faith and prayer.

The olive trees here are very old, but none stood when Yeshua knelt in this place.  The trees can grow for a hundred years or more, and when they die, another tree emerges from the roots.  It teaches me a lesson that true faith never dies.  You can learn more about the olive tree in this POST.

On my first trip to Israel in 1996, we were able to walk through the grove and take pictures.

But on my last trip in 2012, there was a fence around the entire grove.  We could only take pictures from the walkway.

But, I was thankful to get the photo below, because the word was not there in 1996.  This is my favorite photo from the 2012 trip.

Gardens are delightful to me, and I'm sure it's because I find sweet peace and joy when I visit them.

The photo reminds me of my daddy's favorite song, In The Garden.  He used to always ask me to play it on the piano for him.  I hope you enjoy the song, and I hope you've enjoyed the 31 Days of Garden Tours I've shared with you.  Thank you for stopping by, and blessings to you, Gail-Friends.

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 28

Today's tour is of the Florida Intstitute of Technology (FIT) Botanical Gardens in Melbourne, Florida. The gardens are remarkable for the collection of 200 palms, bamboos and other rare and common botanical specimens  I love palm trees and had no idea there were so many varieties.  Don't worry, I won't bore you with the names of all of the plants.  We'll just enjoy the beauty.

On the day of our visit, the temperature was in the eighties, but the day was overcast.  The walkways were nice and shady so it was a very pleasant walk .  It reminded me of walking through a jungle.  These ferns were huge.  I took the picture below to show the immensity of the fronds.

This palm had a fascinating snake-type shape.

Over the river...and through the woods we went, happy to have time together in such a restful setting.

Sometimes the beauty of the light on the palms brought tears to my eyes.

This is an air plant entwined with moss.  They grow on many of the trees here in Florida.  There is so much beauty and variety in G-d's creation.

The winding pathways tempt us to keep going and see what's around the bend.

I'll show you more tomorrow, Gail-Friends, including the wildlife we saw on our walk.  There is much more to see.

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 27

Today, we'll continue a stroll through The Lord's Garden in Titusville, Florida.  Be sure to see part one in yesterday's post. The photo above is the back of the prayer chapel.  The cross you see on the building is a beautiful stained glass creation by a church member.  To see it in all of its glory, click on this link.

Below is a closer view of the lovely blue pitcher and bowl pictured above.

The music from these wind chimes as they sway in the breeze is heavenly.

The tree below is a loquat, with fruit coming on.  I've always called them Japanese plums.

Another enticing spot for prayer and meditation.

I like this sun dial, with a Ma'gen Da'vid (Jewish star)

Fragrant rose perfume drifts on the air.

I had to get one more photo of the beautiful bird bath.

One last, lingering look back at the chapel as we walk down the hill.  You can read more about the prayer chapel and why it's so special to me in this POST.

I'll have another garden to show you in tomorrow's post, so be sure to stop by.

Blessings to you, Gail-Friends.

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 26

The Lord's Garden is adjacent to a prayer chapel at the Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville, Florida.  The garden is named for the church's former pastor, Peter Lord.  This place is a very special place to me and I've spent many hours praying and "listening" here.  Today's post will focus on the garden, but you can read about the prayer chapel in this POST.

The door used to be left unlocked, but now one must enter a code to get inside.  Signs of the times...

As we enter the gate, looking to the right, you see the memorial to the faithful.

The granite wall is inscribed with names of members of the church who have passed on.  I like this idea, don't you?

We'll walk to the back of the chapel, and along the way, we'll see several places to pray, meditate or just enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

Here is a nice shady place to enjoy lunch and write in my journal.  Below is a closeup of the bench. One of my favorite Scriptures.

Down the hill we go, and I noticed an interesting vignette.  It looks kind of like a sandcastle, doesn't it?

Another resting place to enjoy the flowers.

Looking down the hill, I see a pavilion that's been built since I was here last.

Isn't this a lovely spot?

That's it for today, Gail-Friends.  I'll share more of the Lord's Garden tomorrow.

Blessings to you all.

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 25

Today's tour is of the garden around the Pritchard House in Titusville, Florida.  The home, built in 1891, is a grand Victorian, painted in the period style.

Here are a couple more shots of the exterior of the home.

Isn't she grand?  She may look drab, but that's the way houses were painted back in that day.  The plaque below tells the history of the home and the family that built it.

We toured the garden this week, and the day was overcast.  It being October, most of the summer flowers are fading, but I found a few blooms to share.

There were several citrus trees bearing fruit.  The Pritchard House sits in the heart of historic downtown Titusville, and it's great for people to be able to see how oranges and grapefruit grow.  The citrus trees in this area are so abundant, that nobody picks them because most people have them in their own yards. When I first moved here, I couldn't believe the waste of perfectly good fruit.  Now, there is a group that harvests the fruit and gives it to local food banks.

The fruit on the tree is grapefruit.  The plant in the foreground is pretty, but highly poisonous. My husband calls it "Franken-plant".  It grows wild, and profusely, here on the Space Coast.

I loved this pretty, little garden shed.  Yes, the house might have had an out-house back in 1891.

Here are some shots of the garden that surrounds the home.

I took several more shots of the house, but I have to remember this is a garden tour.  I'm fascinated by Victorian houses.

Stop by tomorrow for another beautiful garden.

Blessings to you, Gail-Friends.
