31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 22

This is part two of the Powell garden on Merritt Island.  I've lightened the color on these photos because the pond was shaded and pretty dark.  The photo above shows the camouflage canopy used on the side.  Below is a closer view of the area.

The photos  below show the bamboo pond cover.  Doesn't it look like a sukkah?

It's covered with confederate jasmine, which grows really well here.  It smell so good when in bloom.

I love the touches of blue around the pond, the relaxation area near it, and this arbor made of sea grapes.

The homeowner invited us to step through the arbor to see this sweet surprise.  She sat on her nest atop the ladder, undisturbed by all of the hullabaloo in the yard.  Such a committed mother.

This area, just outside the screened porch, is shaded with another camouflage netting.  I really like this idea.  The homeowner said he ordered it from a military supply on the internet.  Have to do this in my yard.  I love the filtered light.

We were invited into the porch for refreshments.  It is a very inviting, happy space.

And here is the happy couple that made this happy backyard.  They were great, answering everyone's questions, and sharing their wealth of knowledge about xeriscape gardening.

That's all for this garden.  Tomorrow, I'll have another one for you.  I hope you'll stop by again.
Abundant Blessings to y'all, Gail-Friends.

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 21

Today's post is about the xeriscape garden at the home of Dan and Ann Powell of Merritt Island, Florida.  I wasn't sure of the meaning of xeriscape, so I looked it up:  a style of landscape design requiring little or no irrigation or other maintenance.  I aboslutely love this garden because it has enough green and flowering plants to make me happy.  There is so much to see, and I took so many photos, that I'm going to do two posts about it.

This is the front yard and porch of the Powell home.

This is the first area as you enter the gate to the backyard.  They have a large collection of bromiliads, and a cute vignette of a tiny village, complete with a lighthouse.

The yellow shed holds the lawn equipment.  I love the window treatment, and have to make one like it.  Remember, this is coastal Florida.

Here in Florida, we love our flamingos. Yes, I have them in my yard, too.

The chair, turned flower pot holder, is made of driftwood.

The fish are made of bicycle chains
I love the idea of having an art gallery along the fence. (Another thing I'll add to our garden.)  And I love the painted door.

We've arrived at the back end of the yard, and the pond area.  I'll show that to you tomorrow, along with the covered deck, back porch, and a couple of other sweet surprises.  I hope you'll come back by and see more of this couple's creative ideas in their garden.

Blessings to you, Gail-Friends!

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 20

Dear Gail-Friends, I have two gardens to show you today, but my writing will be brief.  For the last two weeks, I have been really sick.  I went to the doctor yesterday, and learned that I have a severe sinus infection PLUS conjunctivitis in my right eye.  I'll have to limit my computer time because of these issues.  I have to rest, especially my eyes.  So today, I'll just briefly describe the two gardens.

The garden above is in the front yard of a home on Merritt Island.  I only took a couple of photos because it really didn't impress me much.  I love green, and this one seemed more like a desert garden.  Nice pond, though.

The garden below impressed me because part of the pond is under the shelter of the deck.  They recycle rain to feed the pond, which has a walk-over bridge and a waterfall.  The pond is full of feederfish, goldfish and two albino catfish.

The homeowners love birds, so we are kindred spirits.

Blessings to you, Gail-Friends!

31 Days of Garden Tours - Day 19

Today, we continue with the Merritt Island Ace Hardware Pond and Garden Tour.  Our next pond was on South Merritt Island, Florida.  Beautiful tropical and flowering plants greeted us as we entered the backyard.

Below is a long view of the pond, which has two sections connected by a small waterfall.

I love the potted flowering plants along the edges of the pond. Doesn't that crane look real?

The rock below sits beside the pond, and my sweet husband and I feel the same way about each other.

In addition to the beautiful plants and the pond, the backyard has a pool and a deck with tables and chairs for outdoor dining.  The homeowners were entertaining family so, out of respect for their privacy, I didn't take photos of that area.

Tomorrow, I will spotlight two gardens in one post.  I hope you'll stop by again to see more Florida beauty.

Blessings, Gail-Friends.
