So Many Bible Versions - What's the Difference?

free image source: Pixabay

Recently, a Gail-Friends reader asked this question:  "What's the difference between the Torah and the King James Version?"  I thought I'd share my answer as a blog post.

This was my response:

Thank you for asking this question.  It's a good one.  The Torah contains the first five books of the Old Testament.  In many translations, it is called "the law."  It is the basis of Jewish belief and practice.  It is the lens through which we find understanding of the New Testament.  Once I learned this, I began to understand many things that formerly puzzled me,

My rabbi (and husband) teaches the following to those who are beginning study of the Torah:

The Bible was written in Hebrew and Aramaic.  The words were then translated as follows:

into Greek
then into Latin
then German (when the Gutenberg Bible was printed)
then French
then Old English (KJV- please note it is a version)
then modern English and then to the many versions of today

As you can imagine, some things became lost through translation.  For instance, some Hebrew words cannot be translated into Greek. Example: in Proverbs 31:10 (KJV), the word "rubies" is actually "pearls" in Hebrew.  And that is only a minor difference.  There are more.  The important thing is that the Torah has been "thrown behind the back" as unimportant.

I was using the KJV when I began my search/study to KNOW that I was following Him and only Him.  As I continued my study,  Adonai led me to the Complete Jewish Bible and the companion Complete Jewish Study Bible.  These are very enlightening and helpful.

My challenge  to the women of our synagogue, and to you, dear Gail-Friends, is to begin a faithful, prayerful reading and then a deep study of the Torah.  Also, to pray for wisdom and understanding.  Seek Him - not a church, a religion, a denomination, or a preacher/teacher.  Ask Him for ears to hear and eyes to see.

Shalom and blessings to you.

P.S.  My husband/rabbi uses only the Hebrew translation, from the Tanach and/or the Chumash.  These have the Hebrew on the right page, and the English on the left.

I recommend using online Bible reference tools such as Bible Gateway to compare different translations/versions.  It can be very eye-opening.

Should Christians Study the Torah?

My study of Torah began in 1996, around the time I made my first trip to Israel. This study has been life changing.  I call the Torah "Bible 101" because I believe it is the basic understanding one needs in order to understand The Scriptures - especially the New Testament.  I found this article very helpful for those who seek to know and understand.  I hope you will ponder this and prayerfully consider these truths.

Should Christians Study the Torah?

The study of the written Torah should be paramount in everyone’s lives, since it provides the foundation and context for truly understanding the mission and words of the Messiah Yeshua Himself.  Indeed, it can be argued that reading the New Testament without a solid understanding of the Torah is like reading out of context – invariably ideas alien to the true meaning of the text will be imported and erroneous conclusions will be formed. (The books of the New Testament were not compiled until 480 to 500 years after the resurrection of the Messiah.)

Often Christians think that the written Torah is virtually irrelevant today, since the doctrines of the Church are made explicit in the New Testament writings.  However, this is a serious mistake, as the following facts will demonstrate:

1.      Yeshua and all His disciples were Torah observant Jews.  The Scriptures that they studied loved, and quoted were the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings.  As a child, Yeshua would have studied the Torah and memorized it with other Jewish children.  He would also have been familiar with the teachings of the earlier Jewish Sages of Israel. (Gamaliel, Hillel, and Uziel)

Indeed, Yeshua said that He did not come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets, but to fulfill them (Matt. 5:17-19).  He later told a prospective follower of His, “If you would enter life, keep the commandments” (Matt. 19:17).

2.      Yeshua said that the Jewish Scriptures plainly testify of Him (John 5:39).  As His followers, we should understand what this means and how they indeed bear witness of Him as the King of the Jews (Matt. 2:2, 27:11).  In addition, by studying Torah, we can more fully appreciate the glory and grace as revealed in the Person and Work of our beloved savior.  For example, we can more fully savor the role of the sacrificial system and how Yeshua fulfilled all of G-d’s holy requirements on our behalf as the Kohen Gadol (High Priest) of the New Covenant.

3.      When two disciples were on their way to the town of Emmaus discussing the implications of the crucifixion of Yeshua three days earlier, who but Yeshua Himself appeared alongside of them and taught them from the Jewish Scriptures?  “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself’ (Luke 24:13-36).

4.      The “Church” was born on the Jewish holiday of Shavot (Pentecost) among the Jewish people in Jerusalem.  Peter’s sermon during that festival (Acts 2:1-41) was entirely Jewish, quoting from the Prophets and David, which would have meant little to any Gentiles in earshot (if there were any).  It is likely, therefore, that the 3,000 people who were saved that day would have all been Jewish.  The earliest members of the new church met regularly in the Temple, where Gentiles were explicitly excluded (Acts 2:46).  Note the Apostles Peter and John are recorded to have gone to the Temple for prayer during the time of the minchah (afternoon) sacrifices (Acts 3:1), and their ministry continued exclusively among the Jewish people, “among whom were thousands who believed and were zealous for the Torah” (Acts 21:20).  Even after they were imprisoned but miraculously escaped, an angel told them to “go, stand and speak in the Temple to the people all the words of this life” (Acts 5:20).

5.      Later, when the Jerusalem Council wrote their letter to the Gentiles regarding their relationship to the Torah, they advised them to at first abstain from those things that would make them abhorrent to the Jews, with the assumption that they would later go on to study the Torah of Moses and the other Jewish Scriptures (Acts 15:19-21).

6.      The Apostle Paul was raised a Torah observant Jew who studied under the famous Rabbi Gamaliel in Jerusalem (Acts 22:3).  Rabbi Sha’ul (as he would have been called) was well established in the Jewish leadership of his day, and even had a relationship with the Sanhedrin and High Priest (Kohen Ha’godal) of Israel (Acts 9:1-2).  But even after his conversion on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-21), he still identified himself a Jew.  In Acts 23:6 he confessed, “I am (not was) a Pharisee.”  He even declared that concerning the observance of the Torah he was “blameless,” which indicates that he observed a Jewish lifestyle to his dying day (Phil. 3:6; Acts 25:7-8, 28:17).  Paul even took the Nazirite vow (Acts 18:18), lived “in observance of the Torah (Acts 21:23-24), and actually offered sacrifices in order to be released from his Nazirite vow, but also paid for the sacrifices for four other Jewish believers!  Notice also that this was performed at the explicit request of James, the head of the Jerusalem Church (and half-brother of Yeshua).

Paul regularly attended synagogue: “He came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews.  And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures” (Acts 17:1-2).  And when Paul later wrote to the Gentile churches, “All Scripture is breathed out by G-d and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” (2 Timothy 3:16-17), he was of course referring to the Jewish Scriptures, since the New Testament had not yet been compiled for the Church.

7.      Many Christian denominations profess to believe in the authority of both the “Old Testament” and the New Testament Scriptures while functionally regulating the study of the Torah to the dust heap of history.  If the Jewish Scriptures are to be taken seriously at all, these denominational traditions attempt to explain away their clear reading (for example, the covenantal promises made to ethnic Israel) and arrogate the intent of the text as being applicable solely to the church.      (copied)

Please Pray With Me

Today is the day officially set aside in the United States of America as The National Day of Prayer.  People all of the country will be praying for our country, our leaders, and for each one of us as citizens.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (below) is often quoted about saving America, but I believe it is mostly misunderstood.  Please read this scripture in context. The people had thrown Adonai's Torah behind their backs -- scorned it -- refused to obey His laws.  Our country, including many, many churches have done the same.

Beloved, this is the gospel of true repentance: Turn from your disobedience to His laws (Torah), accept that Yeshua is the only payment for those sins, and walk in obedience to Torah. This will save our land.

Prior to learning about God's Torah, I was taught that we don't have to obey Adonai's laws any longer.  That stumped me because Yeshua and His disciples obeyed them.  Even the apostle, Paul, obeyed them.  It's sad that people teach this lie.

Another thing I was taught is that there's no way we can't keep all of His laws.  This is true because some are for men, some are for women, and some can only be obeyed in the land of Israel.  Nevertheless, many teachers say we're not under the Law, and that it's no longer applicable.  This is a falsehood aka LIE.

I saw a graphic this week that I have to share with you:

These things are only the beginning.  There are laws related to business, agriculture, treatment of animals, personal relations, marriage, children -- and much more.

Remember, dear Gail-Friends, Yeshua said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments."

He also said, "Take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light."  He obeyed Torah, kept Adonai's Sabbath, (not the one established by the Roman Catholic Church) observed the feasts and festivals, and told his disciples to teach this when He gave The Great Commission."   (Matthew 28:18-20) :

18 Yeshua came and talked with them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make people from all nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age. (Complete Jewish Bible)

If you believe that Yeshua is God in the flesh (the Great Three in One), then the commandments He spoke of are indeed His Torah -- His commandments -- the Law.  And, nothing He taught the disciples while on earth is in conflict with, or disobedient to, the Torah.

Most people have never studied (or believed) the book of Leviticus, which details many of the laws of Adonai.  Therefore, we are seeing a great apostasy in the church today because people are not being obedient to many, many of God's laws.  Preachers teach their people to disobey God.  They probably are unaware of  the words of Yeshua in Revelation 22:

14 How blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they have the right to eat from the Tree of Life and go through the gates into the city! 15 Outside are the homosexuals, those involved with the occult and with drugs, the sexually immoral, murderers, idol-worshippers, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (Complete Jewish Bible)

The world will be a better place when revival comes, and this is what I'm praying for -- a revival of holiness.  That holiness is detailed in His Torah.  I pray you will read it and obey it.

Sabbath Music - Hine Bati

This is one of my dear husband's (who is also my personal rabbi) favorite songs.  I love it, too, and I love the video which shows scenes from Israel.    The songs lyrics are taken from Psalm 40:8-9

"HERE I COME, O MY LORD, FROM THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK THAT'S WRITTEN OF ME. TO DO YOUR WILL, MY GOD, IS MY DELIGHT AND YOUR TORAH IS DEEP WITHIN ME."

Hine Bati (translated Here I Come) is today's song for your Sabbath meditation and worship.  The YouTube video says this about Michael ben David:

"Shot in the Qumran and at the Dead Sea, this latest Music Video invites the Viewer to experience Micha'el's Discovery Journey of TORAH TRUTH that has set Him FREE to worship the Holy One of Israel in Spirit & in Truth as He encountered HaKadosh Baruch Hu/The Holy One Blessed Be He, in Israel over a decade ago in a deeper Way than Micha'el had even known before and since then he has entered the Narrow & Difficult Road to God's Calling on his life, his Destiny and Purpose in the Kingdom of YHVH! "Broad is the way that leads to destruction" therefore Micha'el upon being called to break away from the norm and the cold routine of the religious worlds infiltrated with falsehood and doctrines of Satan, did not hesitate to walk purposefully and face to Face with the One Who is altogether Lovely and HOLY; and it has NOT been easy at all. Micha'el encountered much opposition from fellow believers and non-believers alike along the Way! Despite all the challenges and difficulties and misunderstandings coming from every direction, Micha'el remains STRONG and determined for the Good Hand of YHVH is upon Him to be as "a Repairer of the Breach and a Restorer of the Ways to dwell in" to build the Wall just as Nehemiah and Ezra of old and to stand in the Gap as Ezekiel for the Generation of Jacob who will praise HIM in Spirit & in Truth~the Full Counsel of YHVH!

Born and Destined to be a Voice in the Wilderness as He prepares the WAY of the Coming of the LORD with His Songs of Zion, Micha'el has set his face like flint! He will NOT turn to the left or the the right of His Calling! His Aim is first and foremost to please His Heavenly Father and NOT to please men! Let He who has Ears to hear take heed and understand and consider the wonders and mysteries of YHVH and turn and be saved! Oh the JOY of doing the Will of our Creator and of embracing His Full Counsel, the Commandments of YHVH and Faith in YESHUA HAMASHIACH.... Micha'el unashamedly proclaims God's Righteousness and is a Voice to our Generation! For this is the Generation of Jacob who will praise YHVH!

From Tehilim/Psalm 40:8-9 (Hebrew) "Then I said: 'Behold I come; in the Scroll of the Book written of Me. Elohai I delight to do your will and Your TORAH is deep within Me!"

This Video was shot at Qumran and at the Dead Sea where Bible Scrolls were found! Reenacting the fact that God's Voice is still to be heard and discovered in the Midbar/Desert Wilderness of Life! It is there that we can receive His Torah, His Instructions for LIFE! And say YES to His Will! May you too delight in doing His Will!"

A point to ponder on this Sabbath day -- Do I delight to do His will?

Thankful Thursday - Rest For the Soul

***

I read this article today and wanted to share it with you, Gail-Friends.

This is a post by Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies.org (used by permission)

Surely each one of us want to enjoy rest in our souls and in our hectic lives. We want to find our strength in quietness and confidence. God says in Isaiah 30:15 that all we need to do is to return to Him and do things His way instead of our own way. But what happened? God lamented as He said: “But you would have none of it.”

Again in Jeremiah 6:16 God speaks about rest: “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls." Another beautiful invitation to God’s rest. But did they receive His invitation? No. Instead they said: “We will not walk therein.” They would rather trust in their own ideas than go back to the old paths, even when it’s stressful.

Jeremiah 17:19-24 speaks about the literal Sabbath Day of rest and not violating it. But this same principle applies to us in our daily lives. God says: “If you diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein, Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David . . . “

When we bring burdens into our lives through the gates of our minds, we lose our rest. We live in turmoil instead of God’s rest. We allow our burdens to become king in our hearts instead of Christ Himself. Either Jesus is King or our burdens and troubles. It’s our choice.

But did they listen? No. ”They obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, not receive instruction.” (v. 23).

Do we accept God’s way for rest or try to do it our own way?

* Nancy's article made me think of how blessed we are to have the Torah and Yeshua our Messiah.

Every Friday, I encourage rest on His Sabbath.  Nancy makes the point that we find rest in obeying His laws.  My life changed for the better when I began to follow His ways . . . not the ways of the church, religion, or the current worldly ideas about God.  I cried out to know His wisdom and His ways.  I found rest, peace, and JOY in learning about and following the Torah.   I hope you are blessed by this reading.

Shavuot - Celebrate His Gift

This weekend, we remembered and observed God's commandment to celebrate the feast of Shavuot.  We put this beautiful hand-made curtain on the ark, which holds the scroll, in preparation for the Torah procession.  It was made by our congregation member, LaVonne Craft, and the Hebrew says - The Torah is a tree of life.  Blessed is the man who takes hold of it.  This is so true of me.  When I began to read and obey the Torah, my life changed dramatically.

Shavuot is God's commanded day to remember His gift of the Torah to Moses (and us) on Mt. Sinai. Also, this was the day the Ruach Ha Kodesh came down on those who were gathered in a Shavuot celebration at Jerusalem after the resurrection of Yeshua. He wrote the Torah on their hearts that day, and He's still doing it today. Haleluyah! We take His Word wherever we go. We are His disciples - teaching others about Yeshua and His commandments. You can learn more about this commanded feast, and see photos of our past celebrations, in my blog posts HERE.

This week, in preparation for Shavuot, I found this video about the Torah.  It asks the question, "What would a world without Torah look like?" We watched this video at our synagogue's celebration, and I hope you will watch it, too, dear Gail-Friends:   If the Jewish People Never Received the Torah

On Shavuot, it's a tradition to parade the Torah and to praise Adonai for His great gift.   I love this video of a celebration of Shavuot.  If this song gets your toes to tapping, grab your gift -- the HOLY BIBLE - and join the dance!

Wisdom Wednesdays - Six Questions

Our 350+ year old sefer Torah

I found this article on the Torah Babies Facebook page.  I think it is an excellent explanation of why believers in Yeshua the Messiah are to obey the Torah.

************
"Six questions that will change your life....

This resource is unlike any of our other resources. It is designed for Torah followers who are looking for a way to introduce family and/or friends to the Torah, but it is also self-explanatory, so it is relevant to people who are searching for the truth on their own. By asking a serious of questions in a very specific order and answering those questions using scripture, a foundation is laid which proves that Torah is still applicable in the lives of believers today.

How do we love YHWH (G-d)?
What is Sin?
What is the Law?
What is Lawlessness?
What are Commandments?
What is Righteousness?

These questions along with their corresponding answers are designed to keep a person on topic and guide them to the conclusion that the law, AKA Torah, is still applicable today.

How do we love YHWH (G-d)?

For this is what love for G-d is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden, 1 John 5:3

And this is love: that we walk according to His commands. This is the command as you have heard it from the beginning: you must walk in love. 2 John 1:6

“If you love Me, you will keep My commands. John 14:15

The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” yet doesn’t keep His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:4

What is Sin?

Everyone who commits sin also breaks the law; sin is the breaking of law. 1 John 3:4

What is the Law?
Also: The Law, G-ds Law, Mosaic Law

Merriam-Webster
a binding custom or practice of a community : a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority 2 a often capitalized : the revelation of the will of G-d set forth in the Old Testament
the first part of the Jewish scriptures : pentateuch, torah

Strong’s
H8451 towrah or torah – (from H3384 yarah – to throw, shoot, to point out, show, to direct, teach, instruct) law, direction, instruction, Mosaic Law
G3551 nomos – anything established, anything received by usage, a custom, a law, a command
a law or rule producing a state approved of G-d, the Mosaic law

Scripture References
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

Psalm 119:136 Streams of tears run down my eyes, because they don’t observe your law.

1 Corinthians 14:21 In the law it is written, “By men of strange languages and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people. Not even thus will they hear me, says YHWH.

1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully,

Commentary
The law in the Bible is referring to Torah. Translating Torah as law gives it a somewhat negative tone. A much better translation would be ‘instruction.’ The root word for Torah carries the idea of shooting or aiming to hit a mark. Torah is YHWH’s instructions for righteousness, or His way of showing us how to aim our lives towards righteousness. Torah has more to do with ‘hand’ led instruction than ‘rod’ following legalism.

What is Lawlessness?
Merriam-Webster
1: not regulated by or based on law
2 : not restrained or controlled by law

Strong’s
G458 anomía (from 459 / anomos “destitute of (the Mosaic) law”) – properly, without law;
the condition of without law (because ignorant of it), (because of violating it)
contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness

Scripture References
Matthew 13:41 “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness,

2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?

1 John 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.

Commentary
1 John 3:4 defines exactly what lawlessness is…SIN. Sin is defined as the breaking of the law and the law that defines sin is Torah. Breaking Torah is Lawlessness. 2 Corinthians 6:14 makes a very clear distinction between righteousness (obeying Torah) and lawlessness (breaking Torah).

What are Commandments?
Merriam-Webster
1: the act or power of commanding
2: something that is commanded; especially: one of the biblical Ten Commandments

Strong’s
H4687 mitsvah – commandment (of G-d) (of man)
G1785 entolē – an order, command, charge, precept, injunction

Scripture References
Leviticus 22:31 “Therefore you shall keep my commandments, and do them. I am YHWH.

Deuteronomy 4:40 You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which YHWH your G-d gives you, forever.

Matthew 5:17 But he answered and said to them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of G-d by your tradition?

Matthew 22:40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

Commentary
A commandment, statute, or judgment is anything YHWH commands us to do or observe. Commandments are YHWH’s instructions for righteousness and they are found in the first five books of the Bible, known as the Torah. The verses we have listed show the importance of keeping YHWH’s commandments, forever, throughout our generations.

Even the New Testament verses show the commandments are to be observed today. Matthew 22:40 is often used to say that believers are only required to keep two commandments, love your neighbor and love YHWH, but Y’shua makes it clear that all of the Law (Torah, Commandments) depend on those two, NOT that those two are the only ones we are required to keep today.

What is Righteousness?
Merriam-Webster
1: morally good: following religious or moral laws: caused by something that you believe is not morally right or fair
2: acting in accord with divine or moral law: free from guilt or sin
Strong’s
H6664 – tsedeq (from 6663 / tsadaq “to be just, be righteous”) – justice, rightness, righteousness
what is right or just or normal, rightness, justness (of weights and measures), righteousness (in government), of law
G1343 – dikaiosýnē (from 1349 /díkē, “a judicial verdict”) – properly, judicial approval (the verdict of approval); in the NT, the approval of G-d (“divine approval”).
in the broad sense, the state of him who is such as he ought to be, righteousness; the condition acceptable to G-d

Scripture References
Psalm 119:62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to you, because of your righteous ordinances.

Psalm 119:137 You are righteous, YHWH. Your judgments are upright.

Psalm 119:138 You have commanded your statutes in righteousness. They are fully trustworthy.

Psalm 119:160 All of your words are truth. Every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever.

Psalm 119:172 Let my tongue sing of your word, for all your commandments are righteousness.

Romans 10:3 For they being ignorant of G-d’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of G-d.

Commentary

Righteousness is simply the condition of being acceptable to YHWH. Romans 10:3 shows us that there is a difference between YHWH’s righteousness and our own righteousness.

David makes it very clear in Psalm 119 that YHWH and his ordinances and commandments (Torah) are righteous, so it only stands to reason that following and observing YHWH’s ordinances and commandments is what leads us to the state of righteousness that is acceptable to YHWH. Following Torah is righteousness.

Conclusion

Loving YHWH is expressed by our keeping of his commands or laws. Sin is defined as breaking YHWH’s laws or commands. The law or commandments are known as the Torah or YHWH’s instructions in righteousness. Following Torah is righteousness. When we set aside the Torah as if it does not apply to modern day believers, we are sinning and also not loving YHWH, or at least not loving him the way He wants to be loved. Without Torah there can be no righteousness. The Torah is love!

When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is: fear YHWH and keep His commands, because this is for all humanity. Ecclesiastes 12:13"

*************
Gail-Friends, if you call yourself a believer, a follower of Jesus, I ask you to prayerfully consider these things above.

We've often heard the saying "What would Jesus Do?"  Well, beloved, He would, and did, follow the Torah. I challenge you to read through each of the Gospels in the New Testament and find any place where He said to disobey the Torah (G-d's Commandments).

I also challenge you to find where He said to change the Sabbath (one of the Ten Commandments).

Yeshua was a Torah observant Jew, as were His disciples.  Torah obedience is part of the Gospel.  He died and shed His blood as payment for our sins, yes.  He also said to keep His Commandments.

Ponder these things, as well as Matthew 7:21-23 (which caused me to fall on my knees in repentence):

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On that Day, many will say to me, ‘L-rd, L-rd! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness
