Today, we'll begin the "2015" Merritt Island Ace Hardware Pond Tour. I've been going to this tour for several years, and it's always glorious and grand. This year was no exception.
In the past, we've always started the tour in the north end of Brevard County, but this year we decided to start on the south. The first pond on the tour was in Palm Bay, Florida. The sign pointed us to ring the doorbell, which I thought was odd. We usually walk into the backyard to reach the gardens. When the door opened, we walked into a foyer, and this is the jaw-dropping sight we beheld:
The home is built in a U shape, with the pool area in the center. The gardener / homeowner designed this space before the house foundation was even poured. She wanted to recreate the mountain waterfalls, streams and flowers she'd experienced as a child. The beauty and vibrant colors in the garden just took my breath away. Enjoy!
A three-foot waterfall pours down into two ponds, connected by a fifteen-foot stream, with colorful plants surrounding the area. The gardener told us all of the flowering plants are in containers, so that she can changes them out easily. What an amazing idea!
The waters spill downward into smaller pools, with little spots of beauty along the way.
Below are the tiny fish that swim in the stream.
Above is the upper pond. It took eleven tons of rock, two loads of dirt, and an abundance of plants and shrubs to create this beautiful backyard paradise.
The stream winds down to the lower pond, which contains lots of huge koi. They like to nibble on the mint that grown along the edge.
One more long-lingering look at the most beautiful garden I've ever seen in such a small space. I hope you enjoyed this garden as much as we did.
