31 Days of His Wisdom - Day 20 - Kindness

source Microsoft Office.com

Proverbs 20
6 Most people announce that they show kindness,
    but who can find someone faithful [enough to do it]?

7 The righteous live a life of integrity;
    happy are their children after them.

28 Grace and truth preserve a king;
    with grace he upholds his throne.

The question in verse 6 made me want to put my hand up and shout, "I DID! I DID!" My husband is both kind and faithful in exhibiting it, so he is very rare indeed.

One of my husband's favorite quotes is, "A rabbi who praises himself has an audience of one."  There is much truth in this statement because no one likes a braggart.  But, I will say, because I live with him and I know better than anyone, he is the most righteous person I've ever known. He is also my rabbi.

I have been around many religious people in my life because I have been in church since I was five years old.  Yet, I have never known anyone who lived in obedience to ADONAI the way my husband does.   He does this without an outward show or announcement of, "Oh, by the way, I performed a mitzvot (good deed) today".   The only good deeds he talks about are those of others.

When we are out and about in the community, he is keenly aware of those around him and is on constant lookout for someone who needs help.   Whether it be a child's wayward balloon in a grocery store or a person with a flat tire on the side of the road,  he always takes the time to help.

With reference to verse twenty-eight, my husband is the perfect example of grace and truth.  He stands firm on the truth of ADONAI and does not compromise on any point, because it is the WORD OF HASHEM.  The only thing that makes Him angry is an adulteration of the Holy Scriptures.  He does not allow it in our synagogue.  He is constantly vigilant in protection of the flock and keenly aware of wolves in sheep's clothing who enter and try to devour others.  This is dealt with swiftly in the congregation.

He is also full to the brim and running over with the grace (love) of Hashem, as exhibited by his actions, both in public and in private.  His kindness is touching.  Everything he does is wrapped with it.  His tone of voice, his tenderness with those who are hurting, the children, and the aged always bring tears to my eyes.

He is a gentleman, a role model, a mentor, a tzaddik (righteous person), and I am blessed to call him husband as well as rabbi.

Each time I read through Proverbs, something different jumps out at me.  This is ADONAI quickening His Word to my heart.

As I go through this month of studying Proverbs, I hope you'll join me and read the chapter, too.  I'll share what stands out to me for that day.

I'd love for you to share something He shows you through the day's reading.
I'll be linking these posts to the 31 Days event at The Nester

This 31 day series will focus on the things I learned from Proverbs, as well as some things from Torah study, and will add in a sprinkling of what I've learned from Judaism.

I will be posting daily through October 31.  To read the posts, just go to the Labels section on the left, and click on "31 Days of His Wisdom".

  2. This is my favorite line from your post: "he is keenly aware of those around him, and is on constant lookout for someone who needs help." My blog post today is about a lady who transformed a whole waiting area with a simple act of kindness, so your post resonated all the more with me today! Thank you!

  3. Following you from Titus Tuesday. Having a husband who knows the Lord is certainly a blessing. I am blessed with a loving husband who knows the Lord too.
    Blessings,

  4. What a tribute of blessings you have given your husband. You have done a very uncommon thing as many women do not praise their husbands. Thanks for sharing this. I found it very encouraging.
